I remember growing up with the message that women never fought in wars. I was taught that! And the more I learn about history, the more I realise it was an utter flat out lie. Amazing story of Soviet Russia’s three regiments of women fighter pilots, dive bombers and night bombers, the “Night Witches”… http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_depth/8329676.stm…
The watch pocket. After getting a lovely antique silver Swiss pocket watch for my birthday – a non-functioning watch minus its minute hand – I finally got it back from the repairers last week. This made me wonder about how I was going to wear it. I had an Albert watch chain for it, but…

Huzzah, and other, more period-appropriate, exclamations. The first draft of The Pilgrims’ Tale is complete at 87,890 words. Amusingly enough there’s a little aside in the article that says “and then we redesigned the flight…
I told you about my steampunk guns, didn’t I? I’ve been getting into steampunk in my Alex Oliver persona (and in real life!) I bought a box containing two ray-guy shaped water pistols in the Age Concern charity shop for £2. The low price was sort of justified because one of them had neither a…
And the previous entry below this one is from August 10, and they go back from there. No archives list either, to access more recent ones.
Yes, it turns out that they did pull the plug without warning, and unfortunately it was only backed up in August, so anything since then has been lost. I don’t think the loss of a few blog posts is too bad – I doubt if there was anything earth shattering there! But things like the loss of my RSS and twitter buttons, and the sidebar of the blog are more annoying.
