and again

Never dark.

Padawan Jinn put a bandaged foot out of bed, the floor a shock of smooth cold under newly regrown skin. It didn’t hurt to ease himself out from the sheets – what ache was left was inside, a stain on his heart that could not be reached by bacta.

He lay down on the ground, face pressed to the plating, metal slick against thigh, hip and shoulder, and he tried to absorb peace through his skin. If only he were not a boy. If only he were a fallen seed, lying on deep soil, quiet in the night, awaiting the sun. But there was no soil on Coruscant – only dirtier and more desperate levels of emptiness. And it was never dark. The tiny sliver of his window was full of dizzying brilliance, as comforting as burning magnesium. Read the rest of this entry »

The Hunt for Gollum

As pointed out by ennorwen on LJ

this looks fabulous! Maybe a little too influenced by Peter Jackson’s films, but lots of fantastic Middle-earth scenery, and a feeling of real authenticity. I’ll be there for the launch 🙂

Aren’t I inarticulate over the phone!

It seems very few newspapers or magazines want to run reviews of False Colors and Transgressions, but quite a lot of them want to talk to us about this interesting phenomenon of women writing m/m fiction. I had an interview over the phone the other day with a journalist from Columbus, and I’m never at my best on the phone. I can speak faster than I can think, which means I either have long pauses where my mind catches up, or I just talk nonsense.

I’m fairly positive that I said that Josh Lanyon (who is the ‘male’ the article refers to – I did give them his name!) was a prominent male writer of m/m romance, not “one of the few males who have found success in the female-dominated field of gay fiction”, but see above about talking nonsense when I’m under pressure to reply to a question with any sort of speed.

My attempts to plug Transgressions and False Colors as books also seem not to have come across but I must say, I’m very relieved he at least didn’t call False Colors ‘a torrid potboiler’!

Calling slash writers in London

I’ve just had an email from Laura Baumbach asking if I know of any movie-fandom slash writers who live in London. She says

Do you know of any London are fanfiction (films) slash writers? A radio station in London has contacted me and wants to interview one.

I couldn’t think of anyone off the top of my head, but if you are a movie-fandom slash writer who lives in London and wants to be on the radio, please get in contact and I’ll put you in touch with Laura and the radio people 🙂

Quick plug for two great artists

Website designer Celia Kyle

Erastes recently got a new website: http://erastes.com which I thought was just gorgeous.  When she posted about it she mentioned that it was designed by Celia Kyle of Get Cesigned and that Celia was currently having a bit of a sale on website redesigns.  So I rushed over and got myself a new website with attached blog.  You can see it here, if you’re interested :

Alex’s New Website

Love those compass roses!  I don’t think the sale is still on, but Celia’s work is still very reasonably priced and as you can see, just lovely!

Silversmith and jeweller, Mirien

Mirien and I go back to when I was in Tolkien fandom, writing about Lord Celeborn, that silver-haired husband of a more famous wife.  Noldor influences lead her down the path of gem-smithing, and now she makes amazing and unique jewellery, modern and comfortable to wear, but ancient looking, as if it’s something you found in a tumulus, beneath a dolmen on which something magical was inscribed in Ogham.

For my birthday, she sent me these wonderful earrings, cast in silver from real oak twigs, which I’m wearing right now.  Thank you so much, Mirien! and I’m sorry my camera work doesn’t do them justice.  You can really see all the little details of the bark and buds.

roseearings

and I bought the lovely flower ring from her for Rose, as the foundation of a jewellery box that doesn’t just contain bright plastic tat from Clare’s :)  I’m modelling it as it isn’t Rose’s birthday yet, so she hasn’t been allowed to have it yet!

rosering

If you’re interested in getting a piece designed for yourself, you can find her at <lj user="mirien"> but bear in mind that she’s not a business, she’s an artist, so if she’s overwhelmed with stuff to do, she may not be able to help right now.

Testing, testing

Trying to figure out if this will automatically crosspost to LJ. It certainly looks as though it will, but will it be horribly annoying?

I’m trying to reduce the number of blogs I have to update at any one time, and I’ve discovered this plug-in which allows me to cross post automatically to LJ from my WordPress blog. What do you think? Horrible, or would you get used to it?
